How To Keep A Happier Healthier Home In Stirling
Happier, Healthier Living
Whenever I visit a house in Stirling to clean their carpets, it amazes me how every small detail within can reveal a great deal about those who live there! A fresh, wholesome, and healthy home environment is as much a requirement as is the in-home décor. For example, a malodorous, dirty-smelling atmosphere can create a bad impression of you, but may also be a threat to the family’s health. Moreover, it has been proven that the air circulating within your home is considerably more polluted than the external air. But, by adopting some simple strategies you can make your home a healthier place to live.
Increase The Air Circulation
Dependent on the climate you live, inadequate ventilation is the biggest cause of a stuffy atmosphere. Bad circulation encourages the growth of harmful bacteria: dust mites, and allergens within the home. In addition, the circulation dust particles will be easily trapped inside when ventilation is poor. If this situation remains unchecked, pollutants may cause skin and breathing problems. Having a well-ventilated house should ensure a happier healthier living for all the family. Extraction fans, e.g. in a location like a kitchen and or bathroom will help in shifting the air out from your home.
Avoid Moulds In The Home
Of all the types of fungi, mould likes to grow in a warm, damp, and humid conditions; and your home is just the place for such conditions. Mould spores are tiny, airborne particles that can cause respiratory problems. The likes of bathrooms, under carpet areas, are some of the mould’s favourite dwelling places. The strategy to mould control is quite simple: moisture control! If you control these sources of moisture then mould has no areas to grow. A wet carpet, furniture or a mattress, are major sources of mould growing environments.
Daily Cleaning Routines
An untidy and dirty rooms environment is not only unpleasant, unsightly but can foul the surrounding air. It is an important routine (daily, or every other day) to clean the house and its surrounding areas to eradicate dust (moulds, bacteria), and dust particles out of the home. A hygienic and freshly cleaned environment helps to make a safe home – free from diseases. Be aware that dry dusting may circulate dust particles, so, preferably use a damp cloth. Dust particles will accumulate everywhere. In regard to household plants, have their leaves cleaned at the same time to get rid of dirt. Clean wooden and tiled floors and surfaces with white vinegar, or an appropriate cleaning agent, to kill germs.
Keeping The Home Fresh
An easy way to odour removal tip is to use the outer shell/casing of lemon or oranges, half fill with sea salt (preferably). Place these in a corner of your bathroom, living rooms etc, or anywhere there is a particular odour. The odours will now be absorbed. Keep replacing the fruit outer shells and salt every few days to keep the rooms fresh and healthy. In addition, consider charcoal which is known for its anti-bacterial capabilities as well as the ability to remove air pollutants and moisture of a room. As before, by placing a bowl of charcoal in a suitable dish/container in a corner will assist in removing bad smells and bacteria. Try placing a handful of cloves, or a cinnamon stick, in a pot of hot water and keep it simmering on the stove for approximately half an hour this will circulate the aroma throughout the home – particularly nice at Christmas time!
Carpets Cleanliness
Carpets are large filters; their fibres continually collect dirt, mud particles, and unwanted smells. By cleaning your carpet (s) frequently (every 12 months for heavy soiling, and every 18 months for light soiling homes) will greatly assist in eliminating dust mites, and many allergy particles. By installing a doormat and by taking off your shoes carpets will eliminate many common dirt-bearing dirt particles and successfully reduce them by some 60%.
Bad odours can emanate from carpets. An easy remedy here is to have your carpet smelling fresh again is to mix half a cup of vinegar with one cup of warm water; pour this mixture into a spray bottle and apply to the carpet. Further, spread a generous amount of baking soda directly onto and into the affected part of the carpet. Give the carpet some time to dry. Now vacuum the baking soda out from the carpet.
It not that I'm nosey when I visit homes - in the course of my carpet and upholstery cleaning around Stirling area of course- but you'd be amazed at the some of the conditions people are prepared to live under. Now I'm not one to judge anyone, however, it breaks my heart to see what I know could be a happier healthier environment for these people, and it doesn't matter how much, friendly advice you impart, it just seems to fly over their heads...
Regards
Tom
